Chino Valley Well PumpWell pump repair referral line (928) 655-8940

Symptoms

Why well water pressure drops during use

Pressure that starts fine and fades during a shower or a long watering run is a different problem from pressure that is always low.

This is a referral line. When you call, you are connected with an independent local well pump company.

Normal swings vs a problem

With a standard pressure tank, pressure rises and falls between the switch settings. That is normal. Pressure that keeps falling and does not recover is not.

Common causes

A pump that is wearing and cannot keep up. A well with limited yield that draws down during long use. A clogged filter. A tank that is too small for the household. A leak that steals water.

Local yields

Median tested yields in the ZIPs on this site run from 10 gallons per minute in Prescott Valley and Dewey to 18 in Paulden.[source] A household running irrigation, laundry and a shower at once can ask a lot of a lower-yield well.

What helps the call

Note when it happens, how long into use, and whether it recovers after a rest. If you added irrigation or a bathroom recently, say so. Some owners with lower yields use a storage tank and booster pump.

Finding the pattern

Try a simple test: run one shower and nothing else, and note when the pressure drops. Then try it again in the morning after the well has rested overnight. If pressure holds in the morning and fades later in the day, the well may be drawing down. If it fades the same way every time, the equipment is the more likely suspect.

Questions

Will a bigger pump fix it?

Not if the well cannot supply more water. The company should look at the well first.

Could it be the filter?

Yes. A clogged sediment filter is a common cause.

What is a booster system?

A storage tank filled by the well, with a second pump feeding the house.
